Reading Tarot Cards:
Tap into Your Intuition

Reading Tarot cards, or cartomancy, is a psychic talent everyone has heard of. Too often, it is dismissed as a parlor trick or hoax.

The problem is people focus on the cards. They can't see why the cards could give the information being spoken of.

The cards used by a tarot reader are just a way of tuning into intuition and focusing on a response. This technique is very old and very effective.

Reading Tarot cards is something anyone can learn, but if you are visually oriented, it will be easier.

Types of Cards

Tarot cardsThe magic is not in the cards. It is in the person reading Tarot cards.

It doesn't matter which deck you use. Pick one that really speaks to you. Find one that has beautiful images that excite your imagination, rich with detail.

Each person is unique. There is no one perfect deck for everyone to use.

I recommend a simple deck with positive interpretations to start your practice. Doreen Virtue's Healing with the Angels Oracle cards or Healing with the Fairies Oracle cards are a good starting point.

These cards all have positive meanings. You don't have to worry about getting any 'bad' cards when you do a reading, like a Death card. The gentle messages encourage you and guide you through your day and help you make good decisions.

If you have never done this before, I suggest you start reading Tarot cards with a deck like this. It will soon have you eager to see what the cards will 'tell' you next. Decks like this are useful for picking a daily meditation or getting suggestions for help with problems.

If you are into Eastern religion or philosophy, the Osho Zen Tarot cards will probably appeal to you. This is my all-time favorite deck to use for spiritual help.

The Zen Tarot cards are based on Zen Buddhist principles. At first, you may find some of them hard to understand, unless you are familiar with Zen.

I wasn't that familiar with Zen when I started using them. I kept at it, and I have found that they are amazingly helpful cards.

The Zen Tarot deck does have 'negative' cards, if you choose to look at them that way. However, if you continue to use them, you will find yourself with a more Zenlike attitude, and you won't judge one card as 'better' than another.

If you love the Osho Zen Tarot cards, try the Osho Transformation deck. These have a totally different format. They use stories and parables from many spiritual traditions.

When I first used this deck, I found it a bit hard to interpret. But as with the Zen Tarot, practice made it much easier. I use this deck as I would the Doreen Virtue cards above, but for deeper work and understanding.

The Rider Waite deck is the standard set of cards many readers use. Rich with detail and layers of meaning, these cards can take a lifetime to know well.

This type of deck is probably your best bet for telling the future. There are so many ways to interpret the cards, that is helps you access particular or detailed intuitive information better than some of the more general decks listed above.

It may be because I am not as visual as some people, or maybe because the Rider Waite cards are so detailed, but I still feel like an amateur when I use these cards. My feeling is that I get accurate information, but that I am missing so much.

In spite of the challenges, I enjoy using this deck, and some version of this is a very good deck to use if you are reading Tarot cards for clients.

There are so many decks that I can't possibly talk about all of them. I will mention one last deck that I have found very interesting and rich with meaning. The OH Cards are used as a game, but can also be used for readings.

These cards have two sets that mix and match for an endless variety of meanings. Prepare to be challenged if you use these cards. Doing a reading is like trying to interpret art. Again, a visual person should find this easier.

Just remember to pick a deck that speaks to you, as you need to feel a connection to it for best results.

Reading Tarot cards is fun, but it can also help you make better decisions and improve your life.

If you get really good at it, reading Tarot cards can be a lucrative psychic profession.

Can You Become
a Good Tarot Card Reader?

Key to SuccessReading Tarot cards is in my opinion one of the more challenging psychic methods to learn. That is, unless you are born with strong clairvoyance and are very visually oriented.

For the rest of us, the key is practice. If you practice using the cards, you will get better.

The basic suggestions I give for developing your psychic intuition are very important here.

In addition to developing intuition, when using Tarot cards, you will want to learn to interpret their meanings. Sometimes the meaning is very obvious. But often, it is not.

Most decks come with a booklet that has standard interpretations for each card. It is a good starting point for your practice.

For the more popular decks, like the Rider Waite, you can buy other books that give more detailed interpretations of meanings.

Taking a class is always a fun and effective way to learn new techniques. But remember, it is more like guidance for you. There are many ways to read cards. Follow your intuition as to what works best for you.
